COVID19 pandemic update: We have resumed delivery of Paediatric First Aid courses for people where it is essential for their job role. We have carried out a full risk assessment and have put measures in place to minimize any risk. Our classes will be following social distancing guidelines and we have adjusted practical assessments to avoid physical contact with other students. This accredited full paediatric first aid course suitable for both the Ofsted Compulsory and Voluntary registers is taught by blended learning. Learners are each given their own unique login code to access 6 hours interactive paediatric first aid training. Log in is available 24/7 when it’s most convenient for learners to do the course which minimises disruption if you are working during the day. The E-Learning segment can be easily accessed from computers, laptops and tablets. Students can choose to complete this module in one go or by logging in and out as they complete each segment.

When learners have completed this 6-hour module they will attend a one-day practical and theoretical session on one of our classroom dates in one of our Training Rooms.

Classroom day sessions run from 9.15-5.00 and are taught in one of our training rooms (July and August in Bow, London – 5 minutes walk from Mile End Station) from September we hope to return to our Holborn training room, close to Holborn Tube Station, London.

The course:

QNUK Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RFQ)

  • 1-day training in your setting (6 hrs or 2x 3 hrs) preceded by completing a self-guided E-Learning module accessible via the internet with special log-in and full support supplied by Riverside Cares
  • Teaching dates available throughout the year
  • This course complies with both the Ofsted voluntary and compulsory registration requirements
  • Fully certificated for 3 years
  • Suitable for early years settings, child-minders, creches, schools and anyone who wishes to equip themselves with this vital knowledge
  • Idea course for staff undertaking the responsibilities associated with being a First Aider in an early-years setting.
  • An excellent choice for Early Years practitioners who require a Paediatric First Aid qualification which meets the requirements of the EYFS.

Department of Education legislation requires all newly qualified level two and three childcarers in Early Years settings to have either an emergency paediatric first aid or full paediatric first-aid certificate. Riverside Cares offers both courses.

This qualification is available to those over 16 years.

Due to the language of the assessment, it is recommended that learners have sufficient command of the English language in order to understand the assessment and to undertake the recommended assessment methods.

Attendees will be required to demonstrate First Aid procedures as they would in a real work environment. This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor, therefore be physically capable of doing so.

Early Years settings are legally required to have on-site at all times at least one person with a valid full 12-hour paediatric first aid certificate the person needs to be available on-site and when the setting accompanies children on trips.

Please note that candidates between the age of 14-16 years can undertake the qualification, however, they should not be relied upon by employers to be a sole first aider.

Baby & Child First Aid for Families 2 Hour: Learn Together Virtual Session

Every parent and childcarer wants to make sure they know what to do in an emergency and that they feel confident about the action they take. Finding the time to attend a paediatric first aid session can be challenging and that is why we have created a system where we agree a date with you that works for everyone.  Let us know if you have a date in mind and we can create a session for you to access. You can attend by yourself or with a friend or family members and yes, young babies are welcome, although you may well feel that you will be able to concentrate more fully on the skills you are learning if you make a childcare arrangement.  The course is taught in a relaxed friendly environment and has been designed to ensure attendees will feel able to ask questions and learn vital skills.

This essential two-hour course teaches Toddler and Child first aid to a family group. It also covers basic life support emergency life saving skills and is ideal for carers, parents, parents-to-be, guardians and grandparents giving confidence and skills to deal with emergency situations.

Our consultant will guide participants about how to get the best experience from this training with children in attendance.

This session can take place in our training room or in your own home. Whilst we cannot accommodate children in our training room we are more than happy if you wish to hold the session in your family home with your children present. Naturally, we will talk to you about how best to get the most out of the session dependant on the ages of the children present. We can also offer the services of a childcarer to accompany the trainer who will charge ‘per hour’ for their childcare services.

Paediatric First Aid Award 12 hour Level 3 blended learning: 1 Day training in your setting (for up to 12 learners) combined with an E-Learning module £400

Department of Education legislation requires all newly qualified level two and three child carers to have either an emergency paediatric first aid or full paediatric first aid certificate. Riverside Cares offers both courses.

Baby & Child First Aid for Families for Private Groups In your home or community setting of your choice 3 Hour

This essential three hour course teaches baby and child first aid. It also covers basic life support emergency life saving skills and is ideal for carers, parents, parents-to-be, guardians and grandparents giving confidence and skills to deal with emergency situations.

Duration 3 hours

Each session is bespoke, tailored to the needs and interests of the individual group and delivered in a location of your choice at a time of your choosing.

£240 for up to 5 adult learners (£48 per participant). We can accommodate extra students at £20 per person up to a maximum of 15 students. If you would like this session taught to a larger group please contact us.

First Aid Skills for Children and Young People

School children in state education will be required to learn basic first aid skills as part of their curriculum from September 2020. Primary school children will learn about how to ask for help from the emergency services and how to respond to a head injury. Secondary school children will learn more advanced first aid skills including CPR and about defibrillators. We will be delivering specially designed sessions for young people from January 2020. The desired outcome of these courses is that,

‘Pupils can support their own and others’ health and wellbeing, including basic First Aid.​’

Riverside Cares first aid training is designed to meet the needs of pupils learning life-saving skills and is mapped to National Curriculum requirements as set out by the Department of Education.

Our Trainers

Riverside Cares has developed a number of different sessions to help you meet the requirements all our trainers are experienced qualified first aid instructors and the team is led by Jill Wheatcroft MSc, BSc Community Children’s Nursing, RSCN, Post Grad Dip Academic Practice, First Aid Instructor, A1 Assessor who has extensive experience as a Paediatric Nursing Sister and Lecturer in Child Health at City University.

Basic First Aid and CPR for Young People 2 Hour Session

(designed for 12 years – 19 years)

An introduction to basic First Aid skills and CPR which meets the Department of Education requirements.

  • Use of the recovery position
  • Resuscitation (CPR) Adult

(designed for 12 years -19 years)

Teaches students how to carry out first aid including how to respond to illnesses and how to treat injuries. Life-saving skills will be taught including CPR and how to use a defibrillator (AED).

Course contents:

  • Dealing with emergencies including communication with casualties and calling for help
  • Carrying out a primary survey
  • Using the recovery position
  • Recognising and treating heart attacks
  • Resuscitation (CPR) Adult
  • Resuscitation (CPR) Baby and Child
  • Use of an Automated External Defibrillator
  • Controlling bleeding and treating for shock
  • Recognition and treatment for choking
  • Bone, joint and muscle injuries
  • Recognition and treatment of convulsions and asthma

Price £400 per group of up to 15 students. This is a full-day, 6-hour session.

QNUK Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at work (RQF)

(for 14 years plus)

Learning a skill and gaining an accredited qualification is an added bonus for all school leavers or those entering further education. Students attaining towards this qualification will be able to use it in a professional capacity from the age of 16, for example, employers can hire a person with this Level 3 award in order to meet their Health and Safety (First Aid) requirements in low-risk environments. The benefit of undertaking this course for 14 and 15-year-olds is that it allows them to gain confidence and understand how to react if they find themselves in an emergency situation with friends and family.

  • Dealing with minor bleeding
  • Recognising and controlling severe bleeding and treatment for shock

(designed for 7 years -11 years)

Teaches children how to carry out first aid including how to respond to illnesses and how to treat injuries using different games, scenarios and activities.

Course contents:

  • Dealing with an emergency, casualty communicating and calling emergency services
  • Carrying out a primary survey
  • Using the recover position
  • CPR awareness
  • Looking after a casualty with a head injuries
  • Dealing with minor bleeding
  • How to look after a casualty with severe bleeding and treatment for shock
  • How to recognise and treat an asthma attack
  • Dealing with a choking casualty
  • How to recognise and treat a casualty having a convulsion

First Aid at Work (requalification) 2 Day Course

Re-qualification in First Aid at Work RQF Level 3 Award (England, Wales & Northern Ireland) allows you to update or renew your nationally accredited award in First Aid at Work Qualification. This Award is valid for three years.

Upon completion you will gain RQF Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work

This is suitable for you if your organisation has assessed a need for there to be an on-site First Aider. First Aid at Work satisfies the requirements of the regulatory body for First Aid – the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)

Course Cost:
£650 for up to 6 students plus certification cost of £12 per person . Additional students, up to a total of 12 will be charged at an additional £100 per student. Groups larger than 12 can be accomodated please contact us for charges.
